I graduated with a degree in English in May of 2015, and I’m just trying to figure where I belong in the world. I know it involves horses, and I hope it involves writing and photography. It’s been four years since I was a junior, but I’m still figuring out how to be an ammy who works to pay for my expensive hobby, especially now that I am a horse owner again, as of February 14th, 2016. This blog will chronicle my adventures as a new grad, a new horse owner, and all of the complications involved with being an ambitious 20-something adult!
My mother is a trainer/breeder in Virginia, so I’ve grown up around horses my whole life. I’ve done hunters, jumpers, and equitation, and did a fair amount of catch riding when I was a junior as a working student, and I still pick up extra rides here and there–while keeping my amateur status in tact of course.
Now I ride in Austin and I do jumpers with my recently purchased OTTB (Valido (Val for short) He’s not very big at only 15.3 but he makes up for it with heart, attitude, and talent. When I started Val about three years ago as a project for my trainer, he was just coming down from his (not so impressive) track career and was trotting cross rails. We’ve hit many bumps along the road but we’re schooling 3′-3’6 and showing around 3’3. Hopefully this year will be our 3’6 debut.
