This past weekend, my mama was in town and we played with the horses all weekend. Since I took Monday off to hang out with her, I only just realized I forgot to do a Tuesday post, so…sorry about that! Tomorrow ought to be a bit more exciting, but I’m not quite finished with photo stuff. Continue reading
Since I didn’t start blogging until June, I don’t have a list of goals to review, but I’m going to review my year anyway. As you’re reading this, I am en-route to the family farm in Virginia, and I’ll probably not post until I’m back on the 30th. Continue reading
First a quick note, I did not do any no-stirrups work over the weekend (I don’t even have a good excuse. I just forgot.), and I haven’t been able to ride since because of all the rain, but I have been keeping up with my workouts. So yay me!
I’ve got a list put together of blog posts I want to put together, but in the mean time this sounded fun, especially since I’m still semi-new to blogland Continue reading
The judging was a little strange, and honestly I didn’t like much about the colt that won best young horse, but Stellar was still very good and ended up 7th overall. Considering my Mama did all of the showing without having a name or connections or any prior experience with breeder shows, I think that’s pretty respectable (She’s been in the Hunter Jumper world forever and worked with babies, but never done them in hand in these types of classes). Not much to post from the weekend, so today will be a fun post to get to know some of the babies in my life and their lovely Mama.
Bethany is approximately 17. She’s an Oldenburg mare we’ve had since she was four. She’s been semi-retired for most of her life because she injured herself jumping out of a pasture and landing on bad footing, which allowed ring bone to develop. Since she’s not been able to work much of her life, she’s been a brood mare instead, and she’s so good at it.
She was back in work and super sound for a while, so I rode her some when I was around 14, and even did a Jeff Cook Clinic. Excuse the blurry face; the only copy of this I could find was from when my mama was super scared of the internet.
She went lame again shortly after the clinic, and was leased out to be a mom to this beautiful girl who is now 6:
She eventually moved to Florida to be back with my mom and played lesson pony. She carried several students to Short Stirrup and Long Stirrup division champion and taught many kids to be better riders. And then we decided we needed a Bethany baby of our own. Thus was Stellar (Balt’amour).
This year, Stellar started her show career. I got to take her in her first in hand class at a local 4-h show, and she’s now been to Devon where she was third out of eleven in Non-TB fillies.
This spring Bethany had one more baby, and we probably won’t breed her anymore. Meet Beau, who is also by Balt’amour, and is a carbon copy of his daddy.
